Frequently Asked Questions

We know that 'going to school' can be scary and a daunting prospect. We hope this page can answer a few of your questions;

What do I need to bring to a class?

Firstly yourself and your dog! You also need to make sure your dog has a suitable collar and lead on. You need to bring treats your dog likes or a toy depending on what reward they prefer to work for. Poop bags are essential as well as sensible clothing and footwear (you may be working in a field).

Can I bring my children with me?

The whole family should be involved in training the family pet to ensure your dog has a consistent environment. However, children remain the full responsibility of their parents during classes and everyone should be aware of the following rules:
No running around or playing games during classes
Do not approach any dog without the owners permission
No shouting or screaming

Are you going to train me or train my dog?

Both!
We will show you how you and your dog can work together as a team................your dog wants to please you and you want to see your dog happy!
Training is reward based using a variety of rewards including food, voice and toys.

My dog is aggressive, are group classes suitable?

You will need to speak to Happy Dogs direct if your dog shows aggression towards people or other dogs.
If your dog reacts to people or dogs with growling, showing of teeth or has any history of attacking or biting you must talk with either Martin or Suzanne who will probably recommend one-to-one assessment first. If your dog is more over enthusiastic, barking and eager to greet people/dogs this is something that can be worked on during group classes.
Happy Dogs are here to help you so do not be afraid to get in contact, whatever the issue.
